Summer vegetables 5/14&16/26

Bearden UMC Community Garden - Summer vegetables 5/14&16/26

This week, my garden friends and I planted summer vegetables such as peppers, cucumbers, okra, kale, and basil. We weeded and watered.

In bed #1, the potato plants are up to my hips in height and starting to produce buds, which we clip off.

In bed #2, the cabbage is growing well along with the elephant garlic. We added some more green onion seeds.

In bed #3, we have tomato plants and added some basil and kale to the other side of the trellis.

In bed #4, we have carrots and onions. The carrots will be ready to harvest in June. We added some more carrots seed for another crop.

In bed #5, we have a cover crop of crimson clover and plan to plant trombinco squash, which is resistant to vine borers.

In bed #6, we have cauliflower and kale that was harvested for the giveaway. We added some more kale along with okra.

In bed #7, we have tomato plants and added some basil and kale to the other side of the trellis. We also added okra at the end.

In bed #8, we planted a variety of peppers along with basil.

In bed #9, we cut back the kale for our giveaway harvest and have more growing. We also have garlic growing that should be ready to harvest next month.

In bed #10, we have potatoes and jade green beans (bush).

In bed #11, we have potatoes and jade green beans (bush).

In bed #12,  we planted snack cucumbers and sweet potatoes.

I appreciated my garden friends, Carol and Dan and their help planting and weeding.

Thanks, Leigh
