 Bearden UMC Community Garden - Trellis placement 5/2/26. Today, I am very thankful for my strong garden friends, Mike and Dennis, who helped me put up the fencing poles and panels. We will use these panels as trellises for plants like tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, etc. The slide hammer/post driver was very handy to drive the poles into the ground.  After we put up 6 panels in 4 rows, my garden friend helped at the rummage sale.  The tomatoes and pepper are under cover due to the cold temperatures tonight. It was also helpful to have them out of the way while we put up the trellises.  My master gardener friend, Tobi, donated some great organic products to our community garden. She also donated a wheelbarrow to us.  Next week, I hope we can start planting summer vegetable. Our potatoes have started putting out flower buds that we need to pick off to help them put their energy into their roots/new potatoes. I was also able to put several layer of comp...

 Bearden UMC Community Garden - Trellis fencing 4/28/26. Today, Mike and I were able to obtain fencing panels and posts at Rural King and take to the community garden.  My next project is to put up the fencing as trellises for our tomatoes, peppers, squashes, cucumbers, etc. Concord UMC Community Garden uses this type of fencing as trellises. Below is a picture of their trellises.  I have a post slide driver to drive in the poles. I want help for about an hour on Saturday morning to set up our trellises. The cool weather should blows through on Saturday night then we can plant our summer veggies that need trellises.  Thanks, Leigh

 Bearden UMC Community Garden - Chipper-Shredder and Compost 1/19/26 Today, we received a donation of a leaf and wood chipper-shredder from Mary and Ric, my master gardener friends.  I appreciate my garden friends donating a chipper-shredder so we get leaves and sticks ready for great compost.  The Craftman chipper-shredder on the garden cabinet.  I worked on composting the pointsettias left over from Christmas. Anyone need some pots?  It was cold this morning, but we still have stuff growing.  Thanks, Leigh 

 Bearden UMC Community Garden - Garden cabinet 12/23/25 Today, my husband Mike and I installed cabinet to organize our garden volunteer sign-in, produce production sheet, a produce scale, other garden paperwork, and hand tools. We placed the cabinet inside the church just off the garden by under the stairwell next to the office.  The garden cabinet under the stairs You can see garden from the door near the cabinet My handsome and capable Mike Davis.  I appreciated Mike's help in finding a cabinet and my sister-in-law for donating the upper section. Mike added a pegboard, so I can hang tools and clipboards.  Thanks, Leigh   

 Bearden UM Church Community Garden - New Hose 8/26/25.  I am very thankful for my new garden hose, which was bought by the Shepherds of the Word Sunday School class. I used it tonight before I spread more wood chips. Tomorrow morning, I have 4 garden friends coming to help spread wood chips.  Thanks, Leigh Cheek
