Jade Bush Bean 4/10/26
Bearden UMC Community Garden - Jade Bush Bean 4/10/26
Last week, I talked to a Morgan County Farmer, who loved growing Jade Bush Beans (stringless). I bought some of his extra bean seeds.
Beans make a lovely companion plant to potatoes because they pull nitrogen from the air and add nitrogen to the soil. Yesterday, I planted the bean seeds with the potatoes in bed #1. If you look closely, you can see the potatoes are starting to sprout. I also planted beans in bed #10 & 11. If you want more information on companion planting, good article from West Virginia Agricultural Extension: https://extension.wvu.edu/lawn-gardening-pests/gardening/garden-management/companion-planting .
Our carrots and yellow onion sprouts are doing well in bed #4 next to the shelter.
Our usually avearge last frost date is usually April 20. Our temperature high is predicted to be in the 80's with lows in the 50's and 60's for the next two weeks. This means we may be able to plant our tomatoes. I will need to buy some goat panels and fence post.
The garden is growing. The kid's garlic that we planted two weeks ago are coming up. Usually you plant garlic in the fall. Below is a garlic sprout.
God has blessed us with beautiful weather.
Thanks, Leigh
