Leaves 12/27/25

Bearden UMC Community Garden - Leaves 12/27/25.  I receive 12 big bags of leave, which was a lovely Christmas gift. I In a year, this pile of leaves will be lovely compost. I watered each layer of leaves. We can use this in the compost bins when we build them.   Twelve bags of golden leaves sounds like a great Christmas song.  Today, I watered the garden, which is doing well with this lovely weather.  Blessing, Leigh

We placed the cabinet inside the church just off the garden by under the stairwell next to the office.  The garden cabinet under the stairs You can see garden from the door near the cabinet My handsome and capable Mike Davis.  I appreciated Mike's help in finding a cabinet and my sister-in-law for donating the upper section. Mike added a pegboard, so I can hang tools and clipboards.  Thanks, Leigh

Bearden UMC Community Garden - Christmas food boxes  12/21/25 On Sunday afternoon, BUMC gave away Christmas food boxes to our community members. In addition to the Second Harvest produce, we offered 1 pound of Kale and Collards from our greens from our BUMC community garden and 5.5 pounds of Kale, Collards, and Diakon greens from Concord UMC Community Garden.  The Concord UMC Community Garden row of greens that I harvested on Saturday morning.  The master gardeners at CUMC CG shared their design for their compost bins, which was an eagle scout project by Troop 444. My husband Mike liked this design the best.  Our community members were excited to get fresh greens with their Christmas boxes.  Thanks, Leigh

Bearden UMC Community Garden - Leaves 12/7/2025 Today, I moved the big pile of leave from the greenway to the community garden. Leaves make wonderful leaf mold and compost, which helps make the soil great for growing vegetables.  I appreciate the donated Gorilla Cart from Russell, which made it easier to load and haul the leaves across the parking lots to the fence line in the garden. The big pile the greenway and parking lots is gone.  The leaves are now next the garden fence.  I look forward to building compost bins to help turn these leave into compost.  Thanks, Leigh
